Luxiss

Falkis threw the image across to the mirror he had set up behind him for that very purpose. The silvery surface of the mirror flickered, rearranged itself, gathered colours it could not have reflected from the small, grey room of the cubicle. And then, as if it was the most natural thing in the world, the image sharpened, as lifelike as if the owner of said reflection stood before the mirror itself, glaring at his own reflection.

Fhara gasped, backing against the wall to where her maid was standing.

Her betrothed was indeed young, standing tall and slender with a bored, slightly malevolent expression on his face. He had delicate bones, and had the look of a photograph that one usually presents to a visitor with the words, 'This is my great grandmother. She was very pretty in her time, wasn't she?'.

As if in cue, Fhara said, "He's beautiful."

Falkis looked away from the image. "Yes," he said finally. "He is that."

If you've been following my journal, you've probably guessed that Luxiss is the psychopath character I'm talking about.

The gears on his arm are just tattoos. Luxiss, as is Falkis, is a rune mage, and they're a flashy lot, with their dyed hair and moving tattoos. They can afford to be flashy, and so they are. Also, it's a failed attempt to make it look vaguely steampunk-ish. tells me cogs and such are essential to steampunk. But I can't do it in the same way that she does.

This story is supposed to be sci-fi, but I've never written sci-fi in my life. The plugs on the back of his neck is a sort of bow to the great William Gibson.
